THE PEOPLE
BEHIND THE WEEK.
Alpha Adventures is a small, owner-operated outfit running tahr expeditions out of Canterbury. One guide. Eight weeks a season. The hardest hunting in the southern hemisphere.
THE GUIDE
MIKE.
Placeholder. Mike has spent the better part of two decades on the high country of the Southern Alps. He grew up walking these basins in the off-season and started guiding tahr full-time more than fifteen years ago.
Placeholder. What he loves about a tahr week, in his own words, is that nothing about it can be faked. The country sets the tempo, the weather decides the day, and the bull tells you when he's ready. The hunter's job is to be fit enough, patient enough, and steady enough on the rifle to meet the moment when it comes.
Placeholder. Outside the season Mike trains, fixes gear, scouts new country, and spends what time the kids leave him with his family in mid-Canterbury.
HOW WE WORK
SMALL · BY DESIGN
Eight expeditions a season, one guide. Small enough to know each hunter and the country we're hunting; small enough that nobody is hurried.
TENT-BASED
Spike camps on the tops, not lodges in the valley. The hunting starts where the road ends — closer to the country, closer to the animals.
ON THE RECORD
Every week is documented — animals seen, decisions made, weather logged. The handbook and the packing list are open. We hide nothing.
